Biography
Eleftherios (Lee) Koumarianos was given his first camera –
a Kodak Instamatic - when he was 10 years old. When he started going
to concerts a few years later, the camera went too and a passion
for capturing musicians and their music – in a visual sense
- was born.
In 2001, on his way to the ‘Long Beach Blues Festival’
in California, Lee bought a Minolta SLR camera, duty free. Once
at the Festival, the opportunity of photographing the likes of Chuck
Berry, Bo Didley, Jimmy Vaughan and Koko Taylor changed Lee’s
life. He realised that being a fan of music was no longer enough
and what he actually wanted was to be a music industry photographer.
Over the next few years, Lee began to perfect his craft and started
studying at "The Photography Studies College" in Melbourne.
Through his association with the Melbourne
Blues Appreciation Society, Lee also obtained photo pit passes
that enabled him to photograph musicians at some of the major festivals
in Australia. These have included East Coast Blues and Roots Festival
(Byron Bay), The Great Southern Blues and Rockabilly Festival (Narooma,
NSW), Port Fairy Folk Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival, to
name a few.
